Foundress

Saint Mariam Thresia’s deep empathy for the struggles of families and the poor led her to a unique apostolate. She believed that the family was the cornerstone of society and that nurturing its spiritual and moral foundations was essential. With this vision, she founded the Congregation of the Holy Family on May 14, 1914. The congregation was dedicated to the Holy Family, symbolizing the ideal of Christian family life.

The primary mission of the Congregation of the Holy Family was to support families through spiritual guidance, education, healthcare, and social services. Mariam Thresia and her sisters engaged in visiting homes, praying with families, and offering counseling and material assistance. Their holistic approach addressed not only the spiritual needs but also the physical and emotional well-being of individuals and families. Following in Mariam Theresa’s footsteps, IFDF is an organization dedicated to advocating for families.

Co-founder

On May 14, 1914, with Father Vithayathil’s assistance, Mariam Thresia founded the Congregation of the Holy Family. Father Vithayathil’s role in the foundation was not merely administrative but deeply spiritual. He provided the theological and pastoral framework within which the congregation could grow. His guidance helped shape the congregation’s charism and mission, focusing on the spiritual and temporal welfare of families.

Venerable Joseph Vithayathil’s life and work are integral to the story of the Congregation of the Holy Family. His spiritual guidance and unwavering support were crucial in the establishment and growth of the congregation founded by St. Mariam Thresia. Together, they created a legacy of service, compassion, and dedication to the well-being of families that continues to inspire and guide the members of the CHF and the broader Christian community.
